Year R Ducklings Adventure

Cuteness Alert!!

Over the past two weeks, our Year R classrooms have been buzzing with excitement as we welcomed a very special group of visitors—duck eggs! What started as 5 quiet little eggs in an incubator quickly turned into one of the most magical learning experiences of the year.

The children took their role as “duckling guardians” very seriously. Each day began with eager faces pressed up against the incubator, checking for any tiny cracks. We talked about warmth, care, and patience—three things our young learners demonstrated beautifully.

After a short wait the ducklings began to hatch and we were all very excited to meet them. Once the ducklings dried off and fluffed up, the real fun began. The children observed them closely, noticing how they moved, chirped, and explored. We talked about life cycles, responsibility, and how living things grow and change.

The ducklings quickly became part of our daily routine. As they grew, the children were able to gently hold their new feathered friends and stroke their soft feathers. These moments sparked wonderful conversations about kindness, gentleness, and empathy.

The First Swim

The highlight of the fortnight came when the ducklings were ready for their very first swim. As soon as the ducklings touched the water, they paddled around —much to the delight of their Year R audience.

There were squeals, giggles, and lots of “Look at that one!” as the ducklings splashed and bobbed. It was a joyful moment that the children will remember for a long time.

A Heart‑Warming Goodbye

As the ducklings grew stronger, it was time for them to move on to their new home. Although the children were sad to say goodbye, they were incredibly proud of the care they had given and the part they played in helping the ducklings start their journey.
